This study aims at determining the level of spread and intensity of family violence and its various types in rural communities and reviewing demographic factors in predicting family violence.
In order to do this, 100 respondents – 63 women and 37 men-selected by cluster sampling method and filled in CTS2 and demographic questionnaire. Friedman Test and regression analysis used for analyzing the data.
The findings indicated that percentage of violence was 46.5% (object to violence 57%, subject to violence 36%). It was observed that demographic factors such as place of living in the village, under age marriage, unemployment, record of drug abuse by men, physical punishment in childhood, forced marriages, remarriage of man / woman may help to predict family violence.
With respect to rather high spread rate of family violence in couples, especially
in rural areas, and its growing trend, while screening families prone to
violence, families should be informed by mass media about the consequences
of family violence. Meanwhile, they should feel the necessity of referring to
consultants to get advice.
